Step-by-step install guide

From download to first archive.

This is the normal Mac install flow: download the installer, move the app into Applications, then choose where your archive will live.

  1. 1

    Download the DMG file

When your download finishes, you should see a file named something like VoiceMemoExporter.dmg or Voice-Memo-Exporter.dmg.

  2. 2

    Open the DMG installer

Double-click the DMG. A small installer window will open with Voice Memo Exporter on one side and Applications on the other.

  3. 3

Drag Voice Memo Exporter into Applications

Drag the app icon into the Applications folder. This installs the app like a normal Mac app.

  4. 4

    Open Voice Memo Exporter

Open your Applications folder and launch Voice Memo Exporter. If macOS asks for confirmation the first time, right-click the app and choose Open.

  5. 5

Choose where your archive will live

Pick a folder where Voice Memo Exporter can create your local Voice Memo Archive. Your original recordings are not edited, moved, renamed, or deleted.

  6. 6

Find Voice Memos on this Mac or import audio

Once your archive location is set, you can find Voice Memos available on your Mac or import an exported audio folder.

Before you start

Make sure your iPhone Voice Memos are on your Mac.

Voice Memo Exporter does not log into iCloud or pull recordings directly from your iPhone. It works with Voice Memos that are already available locally on your Mac.

  1. 1On your iPhone, make sure Voice Memos is enabled in iCloud settings.
  2. 2On your Mac, sign into the same Apple Account.
  3. 3Open the Apple Voice Memos app on your Mac.
  4. 4Wait for your recordings to appear there.
  5. 5Then open Voice Memo Exporter and click "Find Voice Memos on This Mac."
Troubleshooting

Common install questions.

macOS says it cannot verify the app

If macOS shows a warning the first time, right-click Voice Memo Exporter and choose Open. This is common with newly downloaded Mac apps.

I do not see my iPhone recordings

Open Apple Voice Memos on your Mac first and wait for your recordings to sync. Voice Memo Exporter can only archive recordings that are available locally on your Mac.

I downloaded a ZIP instead of a DMG

If you downloaded a ZIP, unzip it first, then drag Voice Memo Exporter into Applications. The DMG installer is the preferred download for normal installation.

The app asks me to choose a folder

That is expected. Voice Memo Exporter needs to know where to create your local archive. Choose a folder you control, such as Documents or an external drive.
