What you need to run Voice Memo Exporter.

Requirements

• Apple Silicon Mac: M1, M2, M3, M4, or newer. Intel Macs are not supported by this download.
• macOS 12 Monterey or later.
• Your Voice Memos must already be available locally on your Mac. Voice Memo Exporter does not log into iCloud or download recordings directly from Apple's servers.
• Enough free disk space to store your archive. Voice Memo Exporter copies your originals into a new folder - it never moves, renames, deletes, or modifies your original Apple Voice Memos.

Not sure if your Mac is Apple Silicon? Click the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it says Apple M1, M2, M3, M4, or newer, you're good. If recordings are still syncing, open Apple Voice Memos on your Mac and let them finish appearing first.

Tested configurations

• Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4 series)
• macOS 12 Monterey or later (minimum supported)

These are the configurations we know work reliably.

Tested across macOS versions

The app's file handling has been tested on clean installs of:

• macOS Sonoma 14
• macOS Sequoia 15
• macOS Tahoe 26

That covers how it reads Voice Memo locations and writes the archive folder - the parts most likely to break across macOS versions. Real-world Voice Memos sync still depends on Apple and iCloud, but the file-handling foundation is solid.

Likely-to-work configurations

These should work based on path-safety testing and what we know about Voice Memos storage locations, but more real customer reports will help:

• macOS 12 Monterey through macOS 15 Sequoia
• macOS 26 Tahoe
• Apple Silicon Macs: M1, M2, M3, M4 series

Voice Memos must be available locally

Voice Memo Exporter can find Voice Memo records on your Mac, but it can only archive recordings whose audio is actually downloaded locally.

This rule applies regardless of macOS version, Mac model, or iCloud setup. The app works with audio already downloaded to your machine. It does not pull from iCloud directly, and it does not log into iCloud.

If iCloud is full or sync is stuck

If your iCloud storage is full or syncing is paused, Apple Voice Memos may show recordings on your Mac before the actual audio files have downloaded. In that case, Voice Memo Exporter might find the record, but the audio won't be locally available yet.

To check: open Apple Voice Memos on your Mac and try to play a few recent recordings. If they play, you're fine. If they show a download spinner or won't play, that's the iCloud-stuck issue.

A few ways to fix it:

• Free up iCloud storage so Voice Memos can finish syncing
• Temporarily upgrade iCloud storage if you're close to the limit
• Open Apple Voice Memos on your Mac and let recordings finish downloading
• AirDrop recordings from iPhone to Mac and import the folder manually

Using AirDrop to bypass iCloud

Voice Memo Exporter doesn't import from iPhone directly and doesn't automate AirDrop. But if iCloud is uncooperative, manual AirDrop is a clean fallback:

2. 2. Tap Select in the top right
3. 3. Choose the recordings you want
4. 4. Tap Share
5. 5. Choose AirDrop and send the files to your Mac
6. 6. In Voice Memo Exporter, choose Import Exported Audio Folder
7. 7. Select your Downloads folder, or wherever the files landed

This works on any macOS version and any Mac - no iCloud required.

Not currently supported

• Intel Macs (this release is Apple Silicon only)
• Windows or Linux (Mac-only app)
• iPad or iPhone (this is a Mac desktop app)

Storage

Voice Memo Exporter creates a local archive folder on your Mac. The folder will grow proportional to your Voice Memo library size - copied audio takes the same space as your originals, plus a small amount for transcripts and metadata.

For most users with hundreds of recordings: plan on a few hundred MB to a few GB. Heavy users with thousands of long recordings should plan for more.

Permissions

macOS will ask for permission to read certain folders so the app can find your Voice Memos. You may need to grant Full Disk Access or folder permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

This is normal. The app only reads files locally - nothing is uploaded.

If your Mac isn't supported

If you buy Voice Memo Exporter and it doesn't run on your configuration, that's covered by the refund policy. Email me, get refunded. No drama.

I'd rather hear about an unsupported config than have you stuck. Reports from real users help me expand official support over time.
